NOVEL ANTIBIOTIC 3780 SUBSTANCE, ITS PREPARATION, AND ANTITUMOR AGENT CONTAINING IT AS ACTIVE INGREDIENT

NEW MATERIAL:Antibiotic 3780 substance, guanin-7-N-oxide, having the following physical and chemical, and biological properties. Elemental analysis (%): C 35.50, H 3.15, and N 41.81. Mol.wt: 167 (mass analysis). Melting point: >=350 deg.C. Specific rotatory power: [alpha]D<20>=0 deg. (C=0.5, 1N-HaOH). Solubility; soluble in dilute ammonia water, and concn. hydrochloric acid, slightly soluble in water, insoluble organic solvent. Color reaction: positive in iodine vapor, and KMnO4 reactions, and negative in ninhydrin reaction, etc. Slightly brown crystalline powder, and an acidic substance. Antimicrobial spectrum: showing growth inhibitory activity against Candida albicans. USE:An antitumor agent. Having low toxicity. PREPARATION:A strain such as Streptomyces sp. No.3780 (FERM-P 7171) belonging to the genus Streptomyces is cultivated in medium preferably near neutrality at 25-35 deg.C.
