The invention relates to a method of forming surface structures on a female mould consisting of a metallic pressed plate, an endless belt or the like, in particular for producing embossed engravings on pressed plastic plates or plastic laminates or the like.
<??>In order to obtain extremely precise reproductions of any specified surface structures and to extend the field of application of one and the same matrix production method to all conceivable surface structures without having to depend on using standard etch engraving methods, it is proposed to pretreat the female mould in consecutive steps of the method, provided with a printed image and then to suspend it in a metal electrolyte or metal-alloy electrolyte bath. In the bath, there is deposited on the bare metal points in the female mould a layer of the metal which forms the raised parts of the female mould structure. After removal from the electrolyte bath, the printed image is removed.
