A spine stop, which is fastened to a front end part of the main body of a chain saw, has a reference bearing hole at an end section of the bow-shaped stop, and bearing adjusting holes are arranged at the other end section of the spine stop at locations which lie on a circular arc which forms part of an imaginary circle which has its centre in the centre of the reference bearing hole. In this way, the position can be set in which the spine stop is fastened to the front end of the main body of the chain saw.
