Process for the production of continuous yarns from carbon fibres

A process for the production of continuous carbon fibre yarns of high strength and high modulus, which have superior properties, is described. The production is carried out from a pitch which contains mesophase in an amount of less than 100%, but 70% or more, and using melt-spinning of the pitch from spinnerets having a cross-sectional area at the nozzle outlet section which is greater than the cross-sectional area of the narrowest part of the passage for the spinning solution in the interior of the nozzles. After this, the pitch is heat-cured and carbonised.
