1,265,490. Fuel injection pumps. C. A. V. Ltd. July 29, 1969 [Aug. 13, 1968], No. 38603/68. Heading F1A. A rotary cylindrical distributer type fuel injection pump comprises a number of chambers 25 each containing a plunger 26 spring-loaded towards an end of the chamber communicating with an outlet port 17, the other end of the chamber communicating with a pressure source less than that of the injection pressure, and the arrangement being such that pressure variations in the outlet port 17 and pipeline 18 to the injection nozzle 19 are minimized. Fuel delivered from a pumping chamber 12 to the outlet port 17 moves the plunger 26 to its fullest extent against a spring 27, and thereafter fuel is delivered to the injection nozzle 19. At the end of injection, and with the delivery passage 16 and port 17 still in register, the plunger 26 remains in this position until the fuel pressure drops to a predetermined level, whereupon the plunger is moved by the spring 27 to damp pressure waves which occur in the outlet port and pipeline, thus ensuring a more regular delivery volume. |
