<p>Paper web calender having a bombed lower cylinder and overlying intermediate cylinders, has the intermediate cylinders subdivided into two groups in which one group contains three cylinders and anther group at least one cylinder. All cylindes are mounted on supports which equalise the cylinder wts. In the first mode of operation in which only the group (I) cylinders are used, only the wts. of the cylinders are compensated, whereby the nip pressure between active cylinders is uniform. In the second mode of operation, in which all the cylinders are used the vertical components acting on the cylindes are increased to reduce deflection at cylinder nips to min. Used for calendering paper webs required diferent finishes. Number of intermediate cylinders can be varied, floating cylinder is dispensed with and finish permits also to dispense with supercalender.</p> |
