1,270,181. Piezoelectric resonators. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP. 23 June, 1969 [23 Aug., 1968], No. 31656/69. Heading H1E. A piezoelectric resonator comprises an electroded layer of piezoelectric material supported on the surface of a body having an acoustic thickness which is an integral multiple of the thickness of the layer, the body also serving to support other circuit elements. As shown, the piezoelectric layer 50 of, e.g. CdS, ZnS or PZT is provided with electrodes 40a, 40b and attached to the surface of a body 10 of, e.g. Si, Ge, GaAs, ceramic or glass, wherein a number of elements, e.g. a transistor T and a resistor R, are formed by conventional operations to form an integrated circuit. These are electrically coupled by a conductive pattern 40 to the piezoelectric element in such a way as to form an oscillator or tuned amplifier circuit. The body 10 may be mounted upon a ceramic base 34 by means of a metallic bond 33. The latter provides an acoustic mismatch whereby a mechanical standing wave is set up in the body. |
