A flame failure control system for a gas burner, particularly where the burner is movable employs a radiation detector using an: optical fibre bundle between a quartz lens which is focused on the flame and a remote infra red detector. These optical fibres are extruded non coated quartz fibres which convey the radiation without appreciable loss. The lens is housed inside a casing, and the end of the tube screws into the casing so as to rest against the lens and hold it in position. At this point there are gas circulation openings to prevent clogging by combustion particles and to avoid observing the lens. The tube houses between 30 and 40 fibres of about 0.5 mm diameter. The fibres can convey infra red and ultra violet radiation, the wavelength range being between 2000 angstomes and 2.5 microns.
|
