An underwater vehicle comprises a buoyant body with wheels 26 on one side which are movable out of axial alignment with wheels on the other side, to facilitate movement on uneven sea beds. The body comprises an inner hull 11 with convex ends inside an outer hull formed of hollow plastics boxes 24. The wheels 26 are rotatable on hubs carried on links 27 pivoted to the body at 28. The wheels are driven by respective hydraulic motors (29, Fig. 7, not shown) in the hubs, and the pivoting of links 27 is controlled by hydraulic rams (30). To sink the floating vehicle, a sinker (32) is lowered from the vehicle on to the sea-bed, wheels 26 flooded, the vehicle is winched down to the seabed, and the sinker raised into the vehicle. |
