PURPOSE:To mold an item such as a container simply and inexpensively, by clamping the periphery of part of a thermoplastic resin sheet where molding will be effected, and pressing a flat male mold having a surface corresponding in configuration to the bottom of the desired container against said part while not allowing another part of the thermoplastic resin sheet that will form the circumferential wall of the container to be in contact with the mold thereby allowing said another part to be curved inward. CONSTITUTION:A thermoplastic resin sheet 1, that is, a stock, is heated to be plasticized in a heating furnace, and is fed to a molding zone (X). Then the sheet 1 is clamped by a pair of clamps 2. Then a male mold 3 is pushed upward to mold a part 11 to be molded into a prescribed expanded shape. As the male mold 3 has a flat surface corresponding to the shape of the bottom of the intended container (A), the expanded part 12 is molded only at a section 13 along the male mold 13 that will form the inner bottom section of the desired container (A), and on the other hand a section 14 that will form the circumferential wall (b) of the cup container (A) is curved inward due to the stretching action of the male mold without touching the mold. |
