PURPOSE:To produce formaldehyde in high yield, extremely stably, by the vapor- phase dehydrogenation of methanol in the absence of oxygen, using a catalyst composed of zinc oxide, silver oxide and silica. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound useful for the production of polyacetal resin, urea resin, phenol formaldehyde resin, etc. can be produced in high yield and selectivity, by the vapor-phase dehydrogenation of methanol in the absence of oxygen using a catalyst obtained by supporting zinc oxide and silver oxide to silica. The amount of the zinc oxide supported on the carrier is 1-100pts.wt., preferably 5-50pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. of the silica, and the atomic ratio of Zn/Ag is preferably 10/(0.1-30), especially 10/(0.5-10). |
