A container-making machine comprises an intermittently-rotatable mandrel wheel 1 carrying a plurality of folding mandrels 2 arranged in parallel pairs. At a first work station A a length of material 5 is cut by a knife 6 and formed into a tube on the right-hand mandrel 2<SP>1</SP> of a pair by a box folder 4 and at a work station B the bottom of the tube is folded by a folder and closer 7. At work stations C and D a second length of material 5a is similarly cut, folded and closed around the left-hand mandrel 2<SP>11</SP> by a knife 6a, box folder 4a and bottom folder and closer 7a. Pairs of bottom pressers 8, one pair of which may apply a label to each of the container bottoms, are provided at work stations E and F and the finished containers are slipped off the mandrels at work station G and conveyed to conventional twin filling stations. In a modification, one bottom presser 8 is provided at each station E and F for a respective mandrel. |
