[Also in Division H1] Component parts of an object e.g. a barrelshaped mould or former, are held together by causing an electric current to flow momentarily through a conductor adjacent the component parts, of which at least their lines of mutual contact are of ferromagnetic material, thereby causing the ferromagnetic portions to become magnetized and held together, and the parts are separated by causing an electric current to flow momentarily through the conductor in the opposite direction to demagnetize the parts. The individual mould parts may be mounted in an insulated manner on a central shaft e.g. of copper through which the current is passed. As described, an article may be made by winding string around the periphery of such a former and painting it with plastics resin, the former being disassembled after hardening of the resin.
