Method is used for producing food pellets for cattle, poultry etc. whereby starting material with additions such as molasses and fat are mixed in a cylinder and heated with steam and the mixt. obtd. at the end of the cylinder passed to a pelleting press. Before entering the pelleting press, the mixt. is pre-compacted. The mechanism used pref. comprises a horizontal mixing cylinder contg. a driven bladed co-axial shaft, the pre-compacting press being arranged at the outlet end of the cylinder and discharging into the press.
