PURPOSE:To elevate durability and to prevent wear or damage of an information recording medium by providing a protective layer containing at least two kinds of nitrides among the nitrides of Si, Al and Ti at a prescribed position of a member slidingly contacted with the information recording medium. CONSTITUTION:On a confronting surface to the magnetic sheet 2 of a main body 4A of a pad 4 forming a main body of a sliding contact device for the information recording medium, the protective film 4B of extreme hardness and smooth surface consisting of a mixture containing at least two kinds of nitrides among the nitrides of Si, Al and Ti is formed. The protective film 4B is formed on the confronting surface to the sheet 2 o the pad 4 including the position of a groove 5 for tightly and slidably contacting, the sheet 2 with the magnetic head 3, so that the friction between the side edges 5a, 5b of the groove 5 is remarkably lowered. In such a manner the sliding contact state between the information recording medium and the member slidingly contacting with it is maintained at an optimum value, the wear caused to the sliding contact part is reduced, while the wear or damage to the information recording medium or agglutination of the sliding member is prevented.
