The invention relates to loudspeakers. This is an invention enabling high efficiency to be combined with high allowable power with excellent linearity in an extended pass band. It comprises circular pole pieces 1, 5 forming an air gap in which is placed a concertinaed aluminium strip 7 whose movement is linearised by a device 4 for damping by viscosity. The operation of the facing folds of the strip, as a speed convertor, and the optimum filling of the air gap, as well as the strip's behaviour under current make possible this high efficiency and this high allowable power, the unit being linearised by the system for damping by viscosity. The applications are in the audio-frequency range, the hi-fi, very high level reproduction of modulation, and the production of ultrasound frequencies for industrial applications. <IMAGE>
