<p>Wood is impregnated with an impregnant comprising a mixt. of water and a miscible, hydrophilic low mol. wt. resin which can harden at ambient temp. without addn. of external energy to large, water-insol. macromolecules. The resin may be as a micellar soln. or a highly dispersed aq. emulsion. As a micellar soln., the impregnant may contain a catalysed, oxidatively drying oil-modified alkyd, oil-modified binder copolymerised with a monomer, oil-modified urethane resin or unsatd. polyester/monomer combination. As a dispersion, the impregnant may contain an oxidatively drying emulsion of an oil-modified binder, a polymer dispersion or an acrylate copolymer. The impregnant may also contain a fungicide and a dye and/or pigment.</p> |
