PURPOSE:To obtain a superior photochromic material repeatedly usable for a long term and almost colorless when it is not illuminated with light by combining a compd. having alcoholic OH or an N-contg. basic group with a leuco dye a photo-redox material. CONSTITUTION:A photochromic material capable of reversibly coloring and decoloring depending on irradiation of light or not, and perfectly restoring to the initial colorless state and high in durability can be obtained by utilizing the properties of leuco dyes, such as triphenylmethane phthalides or fluorans, colorable by releasing electrons and decolorable by receiving them, combining one of these dyes, a photoredox material, such as compds. of V, W, or Fe, or cyclic phosphoric compd. represented by formula I , capable of becoming electron receptive on light irradiation and electron donative on interception of light, and a compd. having an alcoholic OH group, such as decyl alcohol, or a compd. having an N-contg. basic group, such as trioctylamine, impregnating paper, fibers, or the like with a photochromic compsn. contg. this combination thus obtained, or kneading it with a plastic and molding the mixture. |
