PURPOSE:To obtain an improved type which can be used both for horizontal and vertical writings, by a method wherein a nick with which the end of a type hold pin engages is provided at least on two surfaces perpendicular to each other on the lateral sides of the type. CONSTITUTION:A type 6C is formed by providing nicks 6c and 6d on two lateral sides corresponding to the bottom of the round back of a type face and the right respectively and being perpendicular to each other. Although it is one and the same type, said type 6C can be made to contact with a type hammer in the different two directions, and thus it becomes possible to furnish a type usable both for horizontal and vertical writings in place of conventional types for horizontal and vertical writings which are provided separately. Each of divided type stacks 9A-9D is shaped in a plane or a square and can be turned in two directions perpendicular to each other so as to contact with each other. Each of the divided type stacks 9A-9D is disposed so that the nicks 6c and 6d may correspond to horizontal or vertical writing. |
