摘要 <p>Prepn. of N-phosphonomethylglycine (I) comprises reacting at 10-25 deg.C a 1,3,5-tris(alkoxy- or aryloxy- carbonylmethyl) hexahydro-s-triazine (II) with a phosphorus halide PXYZ (III) (where X is halogen; and Y and Z are each halogen, 1-10C alkoxy or aryloxy); in the presence of a relatively strong protic acid and a low mol.wt. carboxylic acid. The obtd. ester of (I) is then hydrolysed to give (I). - Pref. (III) are PCl3, PBr3, P(OEt)Cl2 and P(OEt)2Cl. Pref. carboxylic acids are acetic, propanoic and butanoic acids. (II) and (III) are pref. used in stoichiometric amts. with protic and carboxylic acids being used in excess. Pref. (II) is 1,3,5-tris(ethoxy- or propoxy-carbonylmethyl) hexahydro-s-triazine. - (I) and salts are herbicides and plant growth regulants and are biodegradable. Applicn. rates are 0.01-20, pref. 2-6 lbs/acre. (0/0)</p>
