PURPOSE:To increase the strength of the plate during the time when it is made by cutting and prevent any cracks and any separation of the active material by subjecting an active material kneaded mixture held in a resin sheet sack to low temperature treatment before the treated mixture is frozen, then cutting the frozen mixture into unit plates. CONSTITUTION:A pasty active material kneaded mixture 1 principally consisting of lead oxide and held in a sack 4 made of polypropylene, Teflon or similar material, is expanded into a given thickness by a base 2 and a pair of facing rollers 3 and 3. The thus formed active material kneaded mixture 1 held in the sack 4 is put in a constant-temperature container at -20 deg.C, where the mixture 1 by being subjected to low temperature treatment is frozen. The frozen mixture 1 contained in the sack 4 is then sent to a stamping press 7 consisting of a stationary base 5 and a stamping piston 6 and stamped into the dimensions of a unit plate for a lead storage battery by the stamping press 7. After that, the sack 4 is removed from the thus obtained unit plate 8 which is then dried in a constant-temperature container at 60 deg.C before being installed in a lead storage battery container. |
