PURPOSE:To reduce manufactuing cost by subjecting the inside of only one base adjacent to a polarizing member to parallel orientation treatment in a liquid crystal display element having a pair of bases subjected to parallel orientation treatment for orienting the molecular axes of the liquid crystals in parallel to the bases. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 6, 8 for displaying a display pattern are provided on the insides of a pair of parallel glass bases 2, 4, and an orienting film 3 made of polyimide or the like is formed on the electrode 6 and the base 2, and rubbed in parallel to the base 2 to execute parallel orientation treatment. An insulating film 5 made of polyimide or the like for protecting the electrode 8 is formed on the inside of the base 4. Further, a polarizing plate 10 is formed on the outside of the base 2 so as to arrange its light polarizing direction in parallel to the direction of the parallel orientation treatment of the film 3, and guest- host type liquid crystals 16 are filled in the inside space. As a result, since only one face of the bases is oriented in parallel, the manufacturing labor cost can be reduced. |
