PURPOSE:To set up the ratio of the number of input ports to the number of output ports to n:m and to attain low insertion loss and low distribution dispersion by constituting core parts of a mixing part so as to match with core groups of optical star couplers connected to both ends of the core parts. CONSTITUTION:The optical star couplers 4, 6 set up to n:m as the ratio of the number of input ports to the number of output ports are obtained by inserting optical glass fiber flux into a glass tube, expanding the fiber flux together with the glass tube while twisting them to form a glass rod like a taper and cutting off the center of the taper part. The taper-like twisted and expanded parts are shown by numbers 15 and 16. Since the optical fibers are used for the mixing part 5, the mixing part 5 can be bent with about 1cm radius of curvature, so that the input optical fiber flux 1 and the output optical fiber flux 2 can be arranged on the same side. Since the core parts of the mixing part are matched with the core groups of the optical star couplers connected to both ends of the core parts, characteristics such as low insertion loss, low distribution variance and low reflective index can be obtained. |
