The energy converter consists of a frame 1, a rotor mounted therein with a rotor shaft 2 and vanes 3, and an element adapted to connect the rotor shaft 2 to a generator, an alternator or another energy-converting unit. Each vane consists of a holder 6, a plurality of blades 8 which rotate in the holder about local axes which are parallel to the rotor shaft 2, and stop arrangements for the blades 8. The blades 8 consist of a plurality of blade parts 11 which can rotate in relation to one another about axes which are parallel to the rotor shaft 2. Stop arrangements limit the relative rotation movement of the blade parts 11, on the one hand to the position in which they lie in extension of one another, and on the other hand to a position in which said blades form angles with one another, for example in the region of 135. <IMAGE>
