PURPOSE:To provide the titled mold material consisting of a sintered material composed mainly of tungsten carbide, and capable of forming an optical glass lens having excellent image quality without necessitating the polishing, etc. after pressing. CONSTITUTION:The objective mold material for the direct press forming of an optical glass lens consists of a sintered material containing >=80% tungsten carbide as a main component. The mold material enables the direct press forming of an optical glass lens having excellent image quality, and is applicable not only to the widely used borosilicate glass but also to an optical glass lens composed mainly of lead. Although the lead glass is used frequently as a material of optical lens, it has been difficult to handle because of its reactivity with the mold material.
