The invention can mainly be used in high-pressure pneumatics in the pressure range of 0.4-1.5 MPa. It can be used where sequencies of motion of working cylinders are to be fixed and braked at predetermined points. Such demands are made in particular on modern automatic machines, equipment and industrial manipulating appliances in which large controllable forces are to be transmitted analogously or virtually analogously in minimum working strokes under complicated conditions. The special demands imposed in the field of application also result in the object of creating a fluidically operated brake device which can be used in the area of high-pressure pneumatics and which brings the brake elements directly into effect at the working piston with little design complexity. This is achieved by virtue of the fact that a brake element on the one side, which can be acted upon fluidically, is arranged in the interior of a cylinder and/or on the piston and/or on the piston rod of the cylinder, and that the brake element on the other side is also arranged outside the hydraulic cylinder and is coupled to the piston rod. The brake device can be designed as a brake tongue basket or as an elastic tube.
