The invention relates to a pressing apparatus with weights for producing cheese, especially of the "semi-pressed soft cheese" type. Pressing is carried out in the course of production by the simultaneous deposition of weights (9) onto a large number of pieces of cheese contained in moulds (3). Arrangements of moulds (3) are mounted at predetermined axial distances (e) on supporting plates (2) situated one above the other. Arrangements of weights (9) arranged at the same axial distance (e) are suspended on rod arrangements (4), which are arranged above the various mould supporting plates (2). All rod arrangements (4) are connected to means (5, 6, 7) for joint raising and lowering.
