In a method for renewing the tread on a worn-down pneumatic or solid rubber tyre, in which a prefabricated rubber tread is affixed to the carcass by vulcanizing a bonding rubber layer between the tread and the carcass, damaged carcass belts in the tyre can also be replaced at the same time. Raw rubber-covered belts for the manufacture of new tyres or for all-round renewal, which is to be carried out at high pressure and temperature levels, are treated with an accelerator solution matched to the bonding rubber. The raw rubber covering of the belt is thereby converted in such a way that the belt material with a bonding rubber inlay is affixed in place of the damaged belt on the carcass and vulcanized, together with the rest of the ply construction serving for all-round renewal in the tyre raw product, in a pressure chamber at a temperature of 50-95 degrees C and at a pressure of 5-6 bar. The belts manufactured in this way can also serve as basic material for the manufacture of repair patches.
