The assembly table (36) is connected to a supporting frame (31) located below it via two double levers (40, 41). The double levers have pivot axes (46 to 51) which are arranged at an angle to one another so that the assembly table is lifted absolutely parallel to the supporting frame (31) when a lifting unit (65) is actuated. In addition, with regard to the optimum accessibility of the assembly point, the assembly table (36) is of pivotable design. For this purpose, the top arm (42) of one double arm (40) is subdivided into a bottom section (52) and a top section (54) which are rotatable towards one another about a pin (53) integrally formed on the bottom section. The assembly table (36) can thus be pivoted via a drive acting on the top section (54). Since the top arm section (54) rotates here about an axis (A) inclined at an angle to the main plane of the assembly table, a compensating device (55) is provided. A further drive means consists in mounting the bottom part of the bottom arm (43) in a lever (67). The lever, pivotable about a pivot axis (70), is connected to a hydraulic unit (73), upon the actuation of which the lever (67) is pivoted in the direction of arrow (P1). The apparatus can be used as a lifting and tilting appliance for assembly lines in the automotive industry, as an assembly table for the universal working of machine parts, etc. If necessary, the second double arm (41) can also be provided with a correspondingly designed rotary mechanism including drive so that the assembly table (36) can be inclined in any direction. <IMAGE>
