The apparatus and control device according to the invention for WC flushing allow, above all, a considerable saving of water in addition to improved convenience, whilst at the same time ensuring or increasing the cleaning effect. The advantages listed are achieved by a total of 3 different stages of the quantity of flushing water which may selectively also be metered automatically. In this case, the pre-flushing, measured to be about one 1/4 litre, brings about the desired bowl soaking which increases the effect of the following flushing. The main flushing then takes place with the full quantity of water or a quantity reduced to about 30% to 50%, as required (faeces or urine flushing). The alternative control for this purpose can be effected both by means of separate keys by hand and automatically by means of mechanical switches or electronic sensor devices. The long-term saving of water which can be achieved is in the order of magnitude of 35% to 50%.
