PURPOSE:To contrive to reduce size and cost, by a method wherein a solenoid capable of generating an attractive force in both directions (pushing and pulling) is used as a drive source for a thermal head pressing mechanism and a skipping mechanism. CONSTITUTION:The solenoid 28 used for the pressing mechanism is provided with the function of generating an attracting force also in a reverse direction. According to the moving direction of a carriage, a plunger provided on the upper side of the solenoid 28 generates an attracting force in the direction of an arrow B. Printing is conducted by pressing the thermal head 15 against the surface of a paper, and a pinch roller shaft 26 and a take-up shaft 25 are rotated to take up a ribbon. To transfer from this condition to a skipping operation, the attraction of the plunger on the upper side of the solenoid 28 is stopped, and an attracting force is given to a plunger provided on the lower side of the solenoid 28. A lever 33 receiving a force in the direction of an arrow A is forcibly moved in the direction of an arrow C by the tip of a lever 30, and rotation of a gear 37 is stopped by a projection 36 of the lever 33. Accordingly, since the take-up shaft 25 is not rotated, take-up of the ink ribbon 16 can be stopped. |
