CONNECTION OF STATIC INVERTER TO A RUNNING MOTOR

A method and apparatus is disclosed for enabling an inverter (20) to be connected to a free running motor (32). A current limit and a high pulse rate are established for the inverter and the motor is connected to the inverter by switching means (33). The rotational speed of the motor is determined by a feedback arrangement. The pulse rate of the inverter is arranged to be lowered at a controlled rate until the pulse rate is substantially equal to the rotational speed of the motor and the output voltage of the inverter is allowed to rise and provide primary power to the motor.
