PURPOSE:To form a magnetic recording medium having excellent surface characteristics, orientability (squareness ratio), runnability and durability by incorporating a specific fatty acid and fatty acid dialkanol amide into a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:Fatty acid having 8-22 number of carbon atoms and the fatty acid dialkanol amide of the constitutional formula expressed by the formula are incorporated into a magnetic layer consisting of ferromagnetic powder provided on a nonmagnetic flexible base. The amt. of the fatty acid dialkanol amide is made preferably 0.5-4wt% by the weight of the ferromagnetic powder. The number of carbon atoms of the fatty acid to be used in combination with the fatty acid dialkanol amide are preferably 8-22. The fatty acid having 8-22 number of carbon atoms include caprylic acid, lauric acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, behenic acid, oleic acid, linolic acid, linolenic acid, etc. R1 in the formula is an alkyl group, alkenyl group or alkinyl group and R2, R3 are an alkylene group and preferably ethylene group and propylene group. |
