PURPOSE:To manufacture a metallic material having superior hot workability and magnetic properties from a low-cost starting material of low quality by melting an alloy in a melting furnace and directly adding a flux to the molten alloy under heating with gaseous Ar as a carrier gas. CONSTITUTION:An Fe-Ni type starting material having a high S content is melted in a high frequency melting furnace, and a flux 3 is added to cover the surface of the molten metal 4. The molten metal 4 is deoxidized by adding, C, Mn, Si, Al or the like, and flux consisting of 65wt% CaO, 15wt% CaF2 and 20wt% Al2O3 is added to the molten metal 4 with gaseous Ar through a lance 1 by >=1kg per 1t molten metal for 5-15min. Thus, the S and O2 contents of the molten metal are considerably reduced even when the starting material contains much sulfur. |
