QUICK CLAMPING DEVICE FOR MANDREL BAR

PURPOSE:To attach and detach quickly a mandrel bar for manufacturing a seamless steel pipe to and from a working machine by constituting a clamping device for said mandrel bar by connecting the clamping metal incorporated in a clamping head to pneumatic cylinders. CONSTITUTION:The height of a mandrel bar 4 on elevating rollers 37 is matched with the through-hole 8' of a clamping head 8 fixed to the front end of a traveling carriage 5 for the mandrel bar 4 in order to clamp said mandrel bar 4 with clamping head 8. The carriage 5 alone is then moved or is moved while the carriage is held connected to a tension head 18 to insert the rear end of the bar 4 into the hole 8'. A limit switch is provided in the head 8 and when the rear end of the bar 4 touches said switch, the carriage 5 and the head 19 stop. Two pneumatic cylinders 10 are thereafter actuated to push out the clamping metal 11 fixed to the front end of the rod thereby sandwiching and clamping the contracted part of the bar 4 from both sides. The operation reverse from the operation mentioned above is performed in the case of unclamping the bar 4.
