An electromagnetic contactor has a contact arm 70 movable, on energization of the electromagnet coil 14 to engage a fixed contact 58 and continue to move by rocking about the point of engagement with the fixed contact 58. The plunger armature 22 is connected to a rod 26 provided with an abutment 36 engaging a diaphragm 34 in the end on an insulating member 28 abutting the arm 70 so that as the armature is attracted to the core 20 the member 28 rocks the arm 70, away from a fixed contact 60, about a projection 80 until the contacts 66, 58 engage. The initial movement of the arm 70 is opposed by a main bias spring 72 and the final pivotal movement about the fixed contact 58 is opposed by both the spring 72 and a lighter spring 88. An arm 44 pivoted at 46 has one end in the path of the member 28 and its other end actuates on adjustable microswitch 40. The spring 88 may be omitted. |
