PURPOSE:To improve efficiency of changing documents by synchronously driving a separating and feeding apparatus and a transport apparatus for carrying in and out a sheet to a document placing surface to continuously feed a plurality of documents in a close state. CONSTITUTION:A document feeder 1B in a copying machine is constructed so that after the uppermost document of stacked documents is taken out by a separating and feeding apparatus 2, the document is fed to a designated position on an exposure table 4 by a transport apparatus 3 to be copied, and then on completion of copying the document is carried out to a document tray 5. In this case, the document transport speed of the separating and feeding apparatus 2 and the transport apparatus 3 is set equally, and both apparatus 2, 3 are controlled to be switched to a continuous mode for synchronously driving both apparatus 2, 3 to continuously feed a plurality of documents in a close state and to an intermittent mode for intermittently driving the separating and feeding apparatus 2 every time one sheet document is fed out. When the continuous mode is selected, a plurality of documents can be sequentially and continuously fed in a close state to a stop position on the exposure table 4. |
