In a rolling mill, a pair of upper and lower intermediate rolls, that can be shifted in an axial direction according to the width of the material to be rolled, are interposed between a pair of upper and lower work rolls and a pair of upper and lower backup rolls. The shape of the rolled material is controlled by the combined effects of the adjustable axially shifted intermediate rolls.
