The invention relates to an electronic process for the storage of digital information and signals on magnetic tapes and the reduction of interference effects on serial data transmission channels. The invention is based on the object of perfecting the known processes by introducing a tolerance zone, so that even when less sophisticated drives or cassettes are used a considerably greater data integrity is achieved, without data being lost or having to be recorded more than once. The essence of the invention is that the assignment of the bit significance is derived not only from self-contained signal specifics, but also by logical comparison with a frequency spectrum. The number of signals for a bit statement can fluctuate within freely selectable tolerance limits without the information being falsified. Bit checking can be performed by counting the registered signals in a synchronised time frame and comparison with the predetermined tolerance zone.
