The subject of the application is a garden chopper with a drive housing or drive frame, on which a rotary blade apparatus is mounted with a drive wheel and an electric motor is arranged with an output wheel axially parallel to and in the same radial plane as the drive wheel. In such a garden chopper, an automatic length compensation of the drive belt over the entire wear region is to be provided by a prestressed, elastic motor suspension, the spring force of which is nearly constant over the wear path. For this purpose, the electric motor is arranged on a rocker which is pivotable on the housing, about an axis parallel to the axis of the drive wheel, and is acted upon by a spring which is braced on the housing and acts in the direction of an increase of the distance between the electric motor and the drive wheel.
