The invention relates to a fluid timing element, in particular a pneumatic timing element, for use in household appliances, such as electric toasters, having a piston which is arranged displaceably in a cylinder, the piston having a sealing element which is made of a flexible material and the outside diameter of which in the relaxed state is greater than the inside diameter of the cylinder. In this case, the object to be achieved is to accomplish less susceptibility to soiling and consequently more consistent running times.
<??>To achieve this object, it is proposed to use as sealing element a sealing diaphragm, the outside diameter of the sealing diaphragm in relation to the inside diameter of the cylinder (70) as well as the thickness and rigidity of the material of the sealing diaphragm (62) and the diameter of a supporting part (86) supporting the sealing diaphragm as well as the sliding friction in the cylinder being matched with one another in such a way that the sealing diaphragm bears with an outer edge linearly against the cylinder and, upon reversal of the direction of movement of the piston (30) at the end of the elevating stroke, retains its direction of flexure.
