The device for securing motor vehicles against theft acts on the steering column and has a torque limiter, a movable lock bolt engaging in recesses of a ring which is connected to the steering shaft via the means for limiting the torque. The said means consist of drivers which are inserted into advantageously wedge-shaped recesses of the ring and engage on the one hand in grooves on the outer circumference of the steering shaft and on the other hand are supported against the inner circumference of a radially deformable sheath.
