An open-air end closure for plastic-insulated screened heavy-current cables in the medium-voltage range (< 60 kV) consists of a screen insulator (10) having a metallic base part (14), and of a control part (20) which is arranged inside the screen insulator, is prefabricated, and can be pushed onto the cable end (1). An axial extension of the screen insulator engages in a sealing manner into a can-shaped collar (22) on the control conductor. The base of the control divider is surrounded by a protective cap (17) which is fixed from the screen insulator. <IMAGE>
