The chuck is intended for a percussion drilling tool with grooves running longitudinally in the chucking area and has dogs (4), adjustable concentrically to the chuck axis in a chucking opening (2) for the percussion drilling tool, for engaging in the grooves of the percussion drilling tool. When the chuck is open, a catch pin (14) projecting in a radially adjustable manner into the chucking opening (2), by catching in one of the grooves, can orientate and hold the percussion drilling tool, inserted into the chucking opening (2), in such a way that the grooves and the dogs (4) face one another. To this end, the catch pin (14) can be guided in the dog (4) and can project radially inwards under the force of a spring (15) via the dog (4) by approximately its engagement length into the grooves and can be pressed back by this distance against the force of the spring (15). <IMAGE>
