PURPOSE:To realize an RLL code suitable for high density recording with a very small size and simple circuit by converting a 2-bit data word into a 4-bit code word and converting a 3-bit data word into a 6-bit code word. CONSTITUTION:In a code converter provided with a code converting means which converts a data word of mi-bit into an ni-bit code word to an (i) being imax>=i>=1, while the relation of mi/ni=constant is satisfied, the minimum value and the maximum value of the consecutive bit number of the same binary value in the bit string caused by the series connection of the ni-bit code word after conversion to (d) and to (k) and a code inverting means decoding the data word from the bit string subject to d, k limit, the values of imax=2, m1=2, n1=4, m2=3, n2=6, d=3, k=8 are selected. The length Tomega in the RLL code is expressed as Tomega=m/n.T, where T is one bit length of the data word, and the RLL code with a maximum code word length nmax=6, a code word length number imax=2, and d=3, k=8, T=0.5T is realized. |
