PURPOSE:To reduce thrust force by making the water pressure within a runner side pressure chamber balance with the draft pressure to float up the runner. CONSTITUTION:A runner side pressure chamber 6 is provided with a drain pipe 14 perpendicular to a lower cover 4 of the chamber 6 and a drain valve 15 on the way of pipe 14, which valve is opened in exhausting air and filling water to make the water pressure in the runner side pressure chamber 6 pressurized by the centrifugal force produced by the rotation of the runner 2, balance with the draft water pressure through the drain pipe 14. Exhausting air and filling water begin by opening the drain valve 15 and a vent valve 13. When filling of water is completed the drain valve 15 and the vent valve 13 are closed, a guide vane 9 is opened, and the operation transfers to the generating running. |
