IC engine with pressure reservoir - has poppet valve limiting max. pressure during ignition and expansion strokes

The i.c. engine has the usual cylinder (1), piston (2) connecting rod (3) and inlet (4) and outlet valves (5). The combustion chamber (7) has a conical extension (6) sealed by the poppet valve (8). A sparking plug (14) or fuel injector is fitted in the conical extension (6). When the compressed charge is ignited at the end of the compression stroke, the pressure rises still further. The additional poppet valve opens and maintains a constant pressure in the cylinder. When the pressure falls at the end of the expansion stroke the valve (8) is closed by the pressure in the reservoir (12).
