The quadrophonic signal coder and decoder, for recording or broadcasting, has a phase-amplitude matrix to generate the three transmission channel signals. The first and second channel signals are not rotationally symmetric. the third channel signal is such that a second phase-amplitude matrix - the inverse of the first - can produce the 3 original signals, of which the first is an omnidirectional gain and the second and third a gain equal to the cosine and sine of the coded azimuth angle. The modified reconstructed signals at the inverse matrix's inputs are such that the ratio of the real parts of the complex gains of the modified reconstructed second and first signals and the similar ratio for the third and first signals form orthogonal components of a specified vector.
|
