PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having small friction coefficient even for the sliding under a heavy load and excellent durability which is especially suitable for a VTR by allowing an organic silicon compd. contg. an alkylene group having a side chain to exist on the surface of a ferromagnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:An organic compd. contg. an alkylene group having a side chain shown by formula I (Z is a group shown by formula II or formula III, R is a group expressed by formula IV, and l, m and n are respectively 1-20) is incorporated into a magnetic paint contg. magnetic powder such as ferromagnetic metallic powder and a binder. The magnetic paint is coated on a supporting body, and the magnetic powder is oriented. The paint is dried, and the surface is smoothed to obtain a magnetic layer. Or, after forming the magnetic layer, said silicon compd. can be allowed to exist as a top coat. The magnetic recording medium having small coefficient of kinetic friction, less generation of cinching, less blooming, and an excellent still characteristic is obtained in this way. |
