The surface on the socket has slots to accommodate a contact component with a plate-shaped unit (1) positioned between the first and second surfaces. One or more components (7) provide electrical contact with the components of the plug, or perform another contact function dependent upon the effect from the components. The plate-shaped unit has one side which works in conjunction with the primary surface on the plug, whilst its other side works with the secondary surface on the socket. It also has a peripheral edge which in the inserted position extends beyond or forms a support for parts of the plug. The unit is connected to one or more constituent parts to form a boat-shaped horizontal cross-section.
